Plants, Seeds & Bulbs,Outdoor Plants,Aquatic Plants Generic Large White Water Lily – Nymphaea Alba. Beautiful white flowered lilies with yellow centres and large, round, dark green leaves. These lilies can be planted at any time of the year, predominantly growing in spring and flowering in summer. They will grow in a variety of conditions but prefer larger ponds and lakes with water up to around 2m deep and a pH around 6.5. It is a very robust plant, hardy down to temperatures of -15°C. The leaves will grow to around 30cm, the flowers to around 20cm and an average plant will spread over about 1.5m. These plants provide excellent cover for fish and help improve water clarity. RHS advice: Grow in undisturbed water in full sun. Plant in baskets in loamy soil with crowns just below soil surface and covered with pea shingle. Position basket so that it is covered by 15-25cm of water, as the plants establish lower the plants to twice the initial planting depth. Feed during the growing season with a proprietary aquatic fertiliser at the manufacturer’s recommended rate. (They also suggest you pay £29.99 per plant for these!) Lilies will come as healthy rooted rhizomes (tubers) approximately 10-20cm long, with several new pads sprouting and ready to be planted into your pond. We may remove larger leaves for transport purposes, but new growth will quickly replace them. They will be sealed and packed in protective packaging and dispatched by first class mail. We do check all plants prior to dispatch but please note that we do gather them fresh to order from our ponds here in Devon where other species do naturally reside.
